Back in 2020 Microsoft announced their "Pluton" security chip that woulld be coming to future AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm processors. The Pluton security processor is designed to improve the system security under Windows and now we find out that AMD's forthcoming Ryzen 6000 "Rembrandt" mobile processors will be the first featuring this security feature that may prove controversial to Linux/open-source fans...

We have seen this sort of garbage before. And like every time, it is useless nonsense being pushed for ignorant people to have the false sense of security.

Real security comes from encrypting your partitions with software like Veracrypt. And not being dumb about risks.

MS being behind it just makes it worse. They have failed security concerns basically every chance they have ever had.

Shame on AMD for going along with this nonsense. Although I understand they probably feel they have to in order to compete with Intel. (Since no doubt Intel will have this garbage too.)

Problem is, that EVERYTHING out of your control at some level IS used to control you.
This thing is entirely out of your control and deeply within fundamentals of the system.
And it will be relied for security of everything, including online transactions.
So, any non-official crypto will have no security that one could rely on.
SO, when they pull the rug ( paper money) under us and then remove all "other options",
only thing standing will be CryptoShekel.

It depends on your definition of "nonsense". Omnipresent control of whole society is part of Global Agenda.

Although I understand they probably feel they have to in order to compete with Intel.

They feel the need to comply with Agenda. Just like Intel.
Which is what makes open-source options that more attractive.

Come to think of it, computing has gotten plenty fast lately. Why exactly do wee need bleeding edge of x86 ?
Most of what I do could be done on FPGA.
I don't need to put up with this crap anymore.
Battery life and oomph are nice to have, but not if your machine is working against you.

Sounds like switching CPUs in future will be a lot more pain and will require a Microsoft account.

TPM is not really an issue, as long as the rightful owner of the hardware, can freely configure all signatures, the TPM system should accept. So the really interesting question is, does Pluton allow that. If not, you don't have to be a prophet, that AMD will run into major problems within the EU.
