CodeWeavers Working On New GUI, DirectX 10
CodeWeavers, the company behind the WINE-based CrossOver Office and CrossOver Games for running Windows office applications and games, respectively, on Linux (and Mac OS X) has shared some of their plans for 2009. Among the items they are getting ready for is DirectX 10 support and a new GUI for its CrossOver software.
Jeremy White, the founder and CEO of CodeWeavers, has shared their outlook for 2009. With CrossOver Games 7.2.0 out the door, CodeWeavers is beginning work on CrossOver Linux 8.0. Jeremy mentions, "We're really pushing Direct X 9 support pretty far along, and getting ready to move on Direct X 10." Back in October the WINE developers had begun working on Direct3D 10 support, but it looks like the DirectX 10 will become a focus for CodeWeavers in the not too distant future.
The CrossOver 8.0 software for Linux and Mac OS X is expected to bring support for Internet Explorer 7, modern versions of QuickBooks accounting software, Quicken 2009, Adobe Photoshop CS3, and many other improvements. Jeremy mentions that Microsoft Office and Outlook will be improved with this next major release as well.
Lastly, CrossOver is expected to bring a new -- and much improved -- GUI in 2009. Among other enhancements, the new CrossOver graphical interface will integrate CodeWeavers' web-based Compatibility Center into the installation area.
