Mad Max-coming to a world and a street near you. Supports any video drivers your eyes may be using. As for servitude characters, that what we all become unless we have the strength to defy those who seek to buy us and sell us.

In the end what matters is that Mesa developers will need to lower the API overhead if they want to bring Mesa closer to Nvidia's OpenGL API performance. I expect the bulk of this optimization work to happen during the next year.(2)
        1) It does, since you argued games should be designed to work better with Mesa. How can they do that when both small and large API calls are too expensive?

        2) Next year...
I've been working many years with OpenGL, and I keep hearing this excuse.

        WTF?!?
Are you seriously suggesting game developers should design their games to compensate for faulty drivers?

Games can have small tweaks for different hardware, but designing games for Mesa the way you are suggesting would require a completly separate rendering path. This would most certainly be a waste of time.

You know I would do the same thing. I would target nVidia only and not even bother with AMD gpu's. AMD still make great cpu's though so I expect them to at least get somewhere in that department when they release their Xen cpu ... eventually.

People here should take a read of that article valve posted about game development vs driver development. Valve basically quoted that games are not well tested and can have many runtime bugs which cause stability issues and performance issues in game. For this reason, nvidia go to extreme lengths to make sure triple A titles get special treatment from driver developers. So much so that drivers will make exceptions for shoddy game code, thus boosting the games performance. If valve developers are telling us this, then it must be true. AMD make great hardware, but the cost savings are in their driver development. Nvidia simply put much more emphasis on their driver team which is what keeps them afloat. Just look at those Quadro cards... Hardware specs are sometimes below that of a gaming GPU, but they cost 4x to 10x as much. Why? Because the card comes with so many specialised drivers suited to the Autocad software to make sure that you get more out of the card. Personally, there is a balance... And a good nvidia gaming GPU is the best bet. I'm still an AMD fanboy at heart but AMD need to get a move along and release that xen cpu already.
