    Maybe some of the Amigas are the best PPC desktop solution curently, but they are mostly slowish compared to the x86 and very very expensive .



    Check their forum and linux threads they use Radeon cards 100% (with X1000 they can use current cards supported with opensource radeon driver) it seems good but here and there mesa must be patched slightly because of endianess format problems, etc.

    That is a good question. I still don't know what kind of a Mac computer I should buy in order to check these games. I prefer Nvidia graphics cards but I am aware of the fact that ATI can be a better option in this case.

    I have always thought that computers with Alpha processors are less popular than Sparc because Alpha that is a dead platform.

    My impression was that support on non-x86 lagged a bit in bug fixing but there are devs working on it (and keeping it working) and from the questions those devs have been asking on IRC the core support does seem to be there. That said, most of the discussion I have seen relates to PPC first, Alpha second, with not much about Sparc so my guess is that the "workingness" varies in that order as well (ie better on PPC than Sparc).
