Phoronix: GNU Linux Libre 4.1 Now Available For Free Software Purists

Trailing last night's release of the Linux 4.1 kernel is the release of the GNU Linux-Libre 4.1 kernel via the Free Software Foundation of Latin America. This re-base against the upstream Linux 4.1 kernel takes care of "de-blobbing" more non-free areas of the open-source Linux kernel...

so they're not removing also cpu microcodes, right? or are those in the kernel as well?
If so I was just wondering if a cpu may still work or not without them. Thanks!

CPUs have a microcode in ROM so it is not necessary for the OS to load it. If the BIOS knows about newer microcode it will usually upload it to the CPU, but failing that, the OS would need to if you want it up to date.

The system will probably run okay in any event, but occasionally there are nasty bugs fixed by it.

Michael, you should have called it again the "Ultra Free Kernel".

I was thinking the same thing. Bit of a long hike form Norway to South America.

Regardless, good on the 'South American's' for their part in their future. Always good to hear them making inroads on their own terms, and not those of other's no matter how small.
            Hi

What exactly does this have to do with the Norwegian high school graduation festival? I mean the kids make noise, drink a lot of alcohol and have a lot of sex. Is that also a good description of Linux Libre? Sounds fun.
