Phoronix: GenPD Subsystem Posted For Linux 6.6 - Torvalds Wonders What The Heck Is "GenPD"

A pull request was sent out this week to introduce the GenPD subsystem and add a new drivers/genpd area for the GenPD provider drivers to the kernel... To which Linus Torvalds wonders what the heck is a "GenPD" as probably most of you are also wondering about...

i think that is the common problem in IT - people sitting in one domain take certain things from that domain as trivial.

just like this acronym. I bet people involved in IoT would say "well, that's obvious". Yes - it is obvious, to you.

That is actually not fully correct nowadays - this phrase was first posted on Internet around 1996? Today's biggest issue is the amount of retards we have in CS and IT today.

              How about:

"Generic Power Delivery Domain Management Subsystem: Linux Kernel Power Delivery Domain Controller (LAPDS)" with the LAPDS standing for “Linux Active Power Delivery System” or “Linus Approved Power Delivery System”

                there's only one true Genoa

and genpd clearly stands for Genoa Port Daemon

It first resolved to generate power delivery for me, though gen went to generation initially. As to the storage part of his comment, there are still systems that shipped with 128GB.

                    Edit tense on ship
