I thought that this was already the default on most if not all Linux distros.

Years ago when I was using arch it wasn't. And I needed to pass a parameter.
But at some point we just got a new router and it got "fixed".

Not aware of any. Which ones did you check? The change proposal has the details

I didn't check any!
I just thought that the Network Manager ow whoever is dealing with network connection on most distros just have this as default as in theory this seems like a good default to me.
Especially since Windows does this since Windows XP.
