That's why things like GOG Galaxy and the Itch.io client were necessary for GOG and Itch.io to compete with Steam. (It's a demonstrated fact that, in the early 2000s, before Steam came along, PC gaming was on the decline, losing out to game consoles because of their more "just works" nature.)
