In my experience, this is true. Once you care about a certain level of quality, JPEG XL leaves AVIF in the dust. I think there is a need for and room out there for both of them, but right now AVIF seems to be sucking up more oxygen than it deserves.

      That's false.

Only the most expensive smartphones based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2/3, and iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max support HW AV1 decoding.

No other Qualcomm SoC supports it. Mediatek has some SoCs with the feature but I'm not following. Again, premium SoCs.

Mozilla has broken font rendering in Firefox 123 but most people here won't be affected because barely anyone uses Microsoft TTF fonts. I do.

In your browser? What would be the point?

exynos, mediakek, broadcom, and realteks new devices almost all support it iirc, even non premium socs. I believe av1 will be standard on new qualcomm devices too now

                  As do I.

Especially when cloud productivity suites like O365 and GDocs use them a lot as well.

Already built Firefox 123 yesterday, but have not started using it yet. Maybe I won't, if it's bad enough.

Are you using any of Firefox's antifingerprinting functionality?

A lot of antifingeprinting features have been enabled by default recently and I've not changed any defaults.

In about:config I have zero resistFingerprinting features not in their default state.
