Is there anything on that site, including the GPL, that looks like it was written by someone of sound mind?

GPL is just a license, you don't like it, don't use it. In the spirit of "it is forbidden to forbid", I will not object to GPL's existence.
But saying those that write software must be servants to those who use it has an Orwellian ring to it. If someone made that into a law somehow, almost nobody would be writing software anymore.
