I was under the impression that they have already defaulted to Wayland at least in the past year. Maybe I was confusing it with the news that they build with it by default?

It could be a distro setting.

Finally!
I'm really tired of always having to set that environment variable for every OS install / reinstall my computer or family / friends computers.
Now the only that remains, and is very annoying, is that Firefox doesn't uses the default file picker / manager for the OS / desktop environment and it uses some internal and really bad file picker / manager.
