Just in time for Chrome to kill it off.

All it will take is for one of the big social media applications, like Weibo, Meta (formerly Facebook), Twitter or similar to require its use (or at least, this website is best viewed with...) for Alphabet(Google) to scramble to add it to Chrome.

No matter what Alphabet(Google) define as their needs, JPEG-XL fits other people's use-cases better than the other possible choices. Microsoft still don't support native ext4 in Windows, but that doesn't make ext4 useless.

No matter what Alphabet(Google) define as their needs, JPEG-XL fits other people's use-cases better than the other possible choices. Microsoft still don't support native ext4 in Windows, but that doesn't make ext4 useless.

This, Linux users, developers and Linux companies should do what they need/is good for them with no regards to so called "industry standards" or "industry giants" very often, when we do, we end being the standard by matter of virtue.

I absolutely support the use of AV1 for video.

And I support the use of JPEG XL for images.

I suppose what really matters is the major camera manufacturers supporting it otherwise I suspect it will end up toast.
