Phoronix: ipmitool Repository Archived, Developer Suspended By GitHub

The ipmitool utility on Linux systems is widely-used for controlling IPMI-enabled servers and other systems. This tool for interacting with the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) is extremely common with server administrators while now its development is in a temporary state of limbo due to GitHub...

I use freeipmi (Fedora) instead of ipmitool. Not sure what distributions use ipmitool?

I suspect there's more to the story than it seems will be curious to see the resolution. DMCA, reverse engineering?

Aah, look how far they would go for enforcing petrodollar to the world. I wish we could go back using something real as base of currency. You know, not a made up money that is worthless when people stop using it. But you have to use US dollar if you want to have oil to make your country running. Now, those damn Russians, how dare they selling oil to the world.

A clue would probably be that he is Russian and lives in Moscow.

Pretty sad the state of things... I have nothing against Russians personally and thier own country is basically throwing them under the bus (at least the ones that live further from Moscow that are being used as cannon fodder).

The more time passes, the less I appreciate having my git repos controlled by a megacorporation. Guess it's a great excuse to install gitea on my openbsd box!

Even without this latest hiccup ipmitool doesn't seem like a particularly healthy project considering they haven't managed to produce a release for 5+ years.

And no, ipmitool isn't one of these things that is basically done. Vendors continually add features to their BMC's which are exposed via some more or less documented IPMI extensions.

Or they could not invade their neighboring countries... also nobody said the US-EU-NATO is always right, in fact I think the US involvement in the middle east is stupid as crap, its also needless since we could have supplied our fuel from alternate sources or at least we could now but don't. I'm also against continued heavy funding of Ukraine, I'm not against aid where they need help but also dont' think they should get blank check.

What kind of wacko do you have to be to side with the Russia in this case?

I doubt this only has to do with the developer living in Russia. There are plenty of openly Russian developers on GitHub which are not banned.
