Here at least one article that bashes ubuntu.
For sure there are better and worse releases of ubuntu but I wouldn't go as far as to say it is always shipped with half-finished software

xserver is in good shape, I don't think there's much to be excited about 1.7. I think we should focus more on mesa and 3d drivers/opengl 2.1 support, especially gallium3d since kms and ttm seems to polished and it would be cool to leave classic mesa behind and harness the power that kms/ttm brings .
