    Why not a lot more efforts porting to Wayland and making apps/games use middleware (SDL, Qt, Gtk, FLTK, wx, etc) with very strong Wayland support?

      My guess would be that some projects probably don't have the resources to migrate to Wayland in the near term, so in that case it's better that those application works well under XWayland than working badly under XWayland.

        Some legacy code barely justifies basic maintenance let alone porting efforts so giving devs the option to do quick "if running under xwayland, don't do this and that when handling the clipboard..." is often the best option for everyone.

                  A little bird told me the current GIMP GTK3 code is more like lorum ipsum and they're secretly porting GIMP to Electron.

                    Well, it is ported and it works. It is just not released as stable. But most blockers are out of the way.
