You don't get it. This isn't about perverting anything. I was making an observation about two things that share nearly the same fucking name. The observation is that, since the creation of X-Video, the name is now better associated with something very different.

It's like your brain literally died. Do two searches on whatever search engine you want. For the first one, type in "X-Video". For the second one, typing in "DIrectX Video Acceleration". Tell me which one gave you relevant results quicker, and for the one that didn't, tell me what comes up first.

When someone says "I wonder", it's not an accusation. I'm not saying that X-Video and XVideos have any association to each other nor would I care if there was because there's nothing wrong with porn.

Because it's like associating 4:2:0 chroma subsampling with getting high
Yes, associating 4:2.0 chroma sampling with the act of getting high would definitely be dumb. But if someone looks at 4:2.0 (pronounced four two zero or four two oh) chroma sampling and they go "Ha that's like 420, the stoner holiday" then there's nothing dumb about that. They're just making an observation.

To answer the question in the other post -- I'd say you were making relationships where they don't exist due to things being similar. It isn't hard to do as we've all demonstrated.

That's what I figured. As I've said multiple times at this point. I wasn't trying to make any relationship where there was none. The only relationship I was making was the one that exists: the fact that there name is the fucking same. By saying that, I'm not saying that they must be alike in other ways, just in name.

Read this again and break down for me, with definitions and references to grammatical rules, how this even remotely looks like I'm making a connection where there is none.

"I wonder if, with naming everything Xthis and Xthat, it occurred to anybody that these things might one day be sharing a name with something pornographic."

My username could mean Shady Nazi instead of Idiot Stoner simply by using different meanings of the words and numbers use
Looking at X-Video and saying it reminds me of the far more famous thing called XVideos isn't an example of trying to find hidden words or phrases in other words. They're literally pronounced like the singular and plural form of each other.

In fact, if you look at the Wikipedia for the X Video Extension, it doesn't even show it spelled with a hyphen, it just shows it as XVideo which means it's more similar than I thought. Lets not forget what it says under the title of the article

Oh, what does that say? is that Wikipedia assuming people were actually looking for XVideos? Why is Wikipedia making a connection between things that doesn't exist? Why is Wikiedia perverting X Video. They don't serve the same purpose at all and weren't created with each other in mind so why would Wikipedia think anyone was confusing though? Oh, it's because their name is nearly the same? Hrrm, well, you know what. Maybe they have it the other way around, too, right?

Oops. I guess it doesn't. I wonder why? Oh it's because XVideos is the more popular term by probably thousands of times? interesting.

You're making a correlation that only exists due to two things using similar names. That's no different than John Wayne and John Wayne Gacy. Look, I know there's an extra bit at the end, but I'm telling you there's something to this. That's how you sound in regards to a hyphen and an S.

Look, I can play the Wikipedia similarities game, too. Rush. One of my favorite bands....Or am I talking about one of the cities, states of mind, people, or ??? Heck, I don't even have to go to Wikipedia because I have a functional brain: Blow. Am I talking about the movement of gasses, the movie, the slang for the drug, the job (giggity), or something being passed by or ignored???

Frankly, you're coming off like a Fox News sensationalist story. So what if they share similar letters in a similar arrangement. Lots of things do.

Anyhoo, I think I have enough free time today that I'm actually gonna try to play around with custom kernels and amd-pstate so I'm gonna go do that when I get done watching Real Time.

More people know about a porn site than a legacy Linux Video system?

Well I'll be damned. That's totally shocking, groundbreaking information

Ask any random person about Linus Torvalds or Ron Jeremy and see which one they know of and which one they don't. Linus Pottering or Jenna Jameson?

Skeevy, literally the ONLY thing I'm saying is that the names are extremely similar. The reason I brought it up was because it's humorous that decades after the extension was made the name is ways more famously associated with a porn site. I'm not saying there's anything else to it. That's your own creation lol

I don't think I've ever said "Hey that's funny because now people associate that name with that more famous thing now" and had someone respond with "Why would you say they're connected?" until this topic. Yes, John Wayne Gacy and John Wayne are very similar names. You were able to point that out without inferring there's a connection. Just like I was doing with XVideo and XVideos which are names that are even more similar.

I am not and have not, at any point in this topic, infered there was any connection between them other than their name. I'm not doing any Fox News thing because I'm not trying to misinform anybody. I'm not even trying to inform anybody. The names are, in fact, nearly identical and I am stating that. That's all.

Yes, Skeevs. I was being sarcastic, Skeevs. I was talking to you like a baby in those last two paragraphs, Skeevs. That's why I was repeating the reactions to my statement in this thread and applying them to the Wikipedia article, Skeevs. I was making fun of how absurdly dumb the reactions have been, Skeevs. I already knew and stated that one is way more popular than the other, Skeevs It was central to why I brought XVideos up in the first place, Skeevs.

this was a problem for me. There was a while ago i was trying to find information about X-Video and i searched for xvideo, x11 xvideo and xvideo extension and they all showed only p*rn on the first page of the search results

I can imagine! I tried searching it just to see what happens and the protocol's Wiki was half-way down the second page with only porn coming before and after it.
