    I ran a few experiments on GPU utilization with this intel_gpu_top, and got 30 % usage on "render" and 25 % on "video" when watching a 4k nature video with Firefox. I don't think the performance of the GPU itself makes much difference for hw video decode, though, if it's supported at all. Some WebGL demo gave me around 70 % render usage on Firefox and 65 % on Chromium, which doesn't seem like a meaningful difference.

    Im only using videos as an example because rendering the frames is a constant load and a very common usecase that I often hit.

    I use wayland but I use ungoogled chromium from chaotic AUR which includes the vaapi patch for wayland. HWdecode doesn't really effect graphics preformance unless you are copy from gpu -> cpu -> gpu. which is why I mentioned swdec above
