            Smart mirrors are a fad and Mir seems to reflect that.

                  It's progressing slowly, but hopefully some day it can replace the crappy Mutter for some DEs. Budgie is already holding off newer Mutter versions due to some dependence issues.

                  For Gnome, it's unlikely, they imbricated Mutter and Gnome too much to make it possible.
                  It would probably work much better than Mutter though.
