    Java is irrelevant.

(And I wish I could say the same about that Electron crap, but unfortunately I can't.)

Yeah, apart from Minecraft, I haven't heard about other even remotely popular Java apps. Btw, some people actually managed to run Minecraft natively on Wayland.

Java it depends on the UI Toolkit you use.

SWT already supports Wayland, and as a result Eclipse, Dbeaver etc will run natively on Wayland, but only because it uses the native toolkit to set up windows, being GTK on Linux.

I hope once all the merges are done, this also makes steam/gamescope to go full wayland. I'm really curious about games running through proton will perform in this scenario.

I am sure Jetbrains will have something to say about that.

                Has to be said:
This will be the year of Linux.
Then next year is Steam Wayland, another repeat of the quote, then somewhere down the line where Electron apps...

JetBrains has already said quite a lot about it: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue...ayland-support. They are working with the Java Client team at Oracle and the Wayland developers at RedHat to support the Wayland desktop. They hope to have a "preview" working by the end of 2023.

Java is also working on it: https://github.com/openjdk/wakefield. They hope to have a "preview" working by the next LTS, Java 21, September 2023.

                    Steam even uses GTK2.
Not to mention Valve's games compiled with "ancient" SDL2 versions, without Wayland support.

Electron has (mostly) been dealt with, the real problem is Java.
