They will never finish this project considering that Wine devs haven't done that in 10+ years. Basic D3D 9c funtions can be relatively easily translated into another graphical API, but then all of a sudden, various d3dx9_XX.dll libraries contain various calls which are extremely difficult to implement. Literally hundreds of Windows games still cannot be run without native d3dx9_36.dll
This isn't usable just for Wine...

Runs Direct3D 9 applications on Windows or Linux (/w Wine) over Vulkan.
This may be interesting for some games on Windows (like Guild Wars 2 for example), and I don't see why it couldn't be adapted to virtualization programs.

As example: «vodoo cards will be able to run vulkan drivers?» nvidia cards will be able? 9800 ati card is able to run them? hd ati cards are able to manage vulkan's apis? sp which vga cards are compliant with vulkan's APIs? Now the question is more clear!?
      chill out please

You know you probably could have found that with a Google search, right? Instead of by yelling at people on the Internet?

No that's not true at all. r600 class cards on windows are deprecated and will never receive a driver with vulkan support. While it may be technically possible for r600 cards to support a limited subset of the Vulkan specs, it never actually will.

EDIT: and unless someone ports r600 hardware support to amdgpu, it won't happen on linux either. In both cases, windows and linux, Vulkan support -starts- at Southern Islands.

so the info on wikipedia are not sufficiently correct? however I think that the serie you have mentioned will be supported on linux operating systems unlike microsoft operating systems.

I don't know - I consider this project very interesting - alongside OpenGL ES and OpenGL translators to Vulkan. It is developer's own time, and you can't really push people do anything else they aren't interested in open source. I certainly see some benefits from this, and I hope it might bring interesting concept of moving Wine OpenGL translator to Vulkan side - with performance and compatibility benefits - in future. In far future, yes, but it would ensure that you could play DirectX games on Wine after OpenGL will be long gone from mainstream (10 years from now for example).

The fact is, most hobby projects (open-source or otherwise) never become useful outside of a small group of people but can be a great learning exercise for the developer or others who may be interested in that type of application. The knowledge gained could end up helping another project either by a direct contribution or sharing a solution to a problem that someone working on that project might have.

Whether or not this particular project has a use elsewhere (and it very well could do one day, for example if it makes it easier to port DX9-based application to other platforms) you can be sure the developer is learning a heck of a lot about DX9 and Vulkan that can be applied elsewhere (Wine, for example), but that is up to them.

Personally, I think it's great that someone would take on a project like this (or any project) and whatever goal the developer has, I wish them the best of luck.

Complaining on forums about how someone else spends their time is rarely beneficial to anyone.

Is it really possible you don't know how to use Google? Search for "What hardware does Vulkan API support?" And you get a neat formatted card that answers your question. Perfect for stupid, demanding people.
