Apple makes sure their products do not last. There are full of iphones and macbooks fully working but icloud locked. Second hand market is N1 enemy to apple.

If somehow you get unlocked one, their batteries would be degraded by that time. Good like buying genuine battery by then and replacing it. Also their ssds will be worn, they are soldered. Remember their first arrival? They used ssds like crazy to wear them out in about 5 years. Not even speaking of RAM. by 2029-2030 8 and even 16 GB would not be enough. Only higher RAM options will be considerable.

      1) The locked iphones and macs are the stolen ones. Do you support stealing? 2) SSD doesn't get worn out by soldering ;-) Also many don't have soldered disk, e.g. I have here a 2017 MacBook 13" Pro and you just need to buy a cheap plastic to convert the form factor to a regular SSD. 3) Batteries and other equipment from the second market are actually easier for products sold in large quantities (e.g. macbooks are among the most sold laptops in the world). Again, the 2017 MacBook 13" in my hands now has a worn out battery, informs me about replacing it, yet still gives 5-6 hours of office work (something many PC latops didn't have even a new).

2017 x86 macbook battery that says that it needs replacing lasts 5-6 hours yeah That's a lie so big it can be seen from space without any equipment

Those old macbooks had well known keyboard issues and then flexgate issues. Thinkpads are much better price/performance. Have the best keyboards out there and are simply the best laptops for linux support. MIL speced and greatly equiped ports and features smart card readers, dual batteries (hot plugable, one can swap out while laptop is working), sim card slots and so on and on.

Tested it for multiple days for now. It was even under water and then fixed (partially, a bug in the display cabel). Amazing what a macbook survives.

Today thinkpads are only a shadow of the perfect ones in the past.

On the new ARM Macs, the storage chips are soldered to the main board, and thus, if the cells degrade, you're quite out of luck if you can't do BGA soldering and can't find compatible chips that the onboard controller supports.
