I am surprised this took years to materialize.

Adam Jackson, that's a name I have not seen related to Mesa in years, is he still around?

So what would be a typical use-case for this?
I assume this could help iGPU + dGPU systems?

I was wondering the same thing. I suspect not much, which is why it took so long to actually commit.

From the spec description in the article, it "allows offscreen rendering to pixmap or window surfaces rather than a pbuffer or FBO" but I'm not sure why you'd want to do that, other than for testing purposes maybe.
