New official AMD forum for Catalyst feedback

I dont get how many accounts somebody needs to report an issue to amd. Can't the devs read the existing forums? I mean there is an amd subforum for steam already. When you use steam then you have got an account there. So why should somebody register for a RESTRICTED forum. That's completely stupid when amd devs decide who may post errors and who not. That's not how it works, definitely NOT.

Important notes about this forum from Valve:
AMD has opened a new forum ( http://devgurus.amd.com/community/steam-linux ) for those of you using Linux AMD graphics drivers. The purpose of the AMD forum is to provide a direct line to AMD for feedback on their graphics drivers. Currently before you can post you will need to create a new AMD forum account and request access to the forum. Currently, the forum is private but that will change to public very soon.

In fairness, most of the posts came on the weekend...
EDIT -- my bad, I was looking at date of last post... and in case anyone hasn't seen it, this post describes a workaround for running TF2 on the legacy drivers :
NOTE: AMD have released a new Legacy driver which resolves the problem this workaround originally... worked around. Go get 'em! The Catalyst Legacy 12.6 drivers are missing a fairly trivial extension, GL_EXT_texture_sRGB_decode. This extension allows the game engine to switch a texture between sRGB decoding(gamma correction) and linear decoding (no gamma correction). It is used for DX9 emulation, which it appears the source engine is doing.Last edited by bridgman; 16 December 2012, 09:53 AM.Test signature

@bridgman
That workaround causes rendering problems. Also do you know that some ppl managed to activate the "disabled" bits on the 12.10 drivers to run on legacy hardware? Look
When modders can activate it then amd can do the same much simpler. That's just a marketing trick that users should buy new hardware - not more not less.
@RussianNeuroMancer
I definine restricted as that a mod needs to enable your account to be able to post. Nvidia has now an old board as well because nvnews was too long down but do you think somebody has to enable your account manually there?Last edited by Kano; 16 December 2012, 10:55 AM.

The workaround doesn't actually add support for the extension, it just bypasses the check. It's certainly not recommended programming practice (although a disturbing number of apps do things like that) and I wouldn't have passed it on if it wasn't for the fact that a bunch of users had said they were running reasonably well with it.
Don't understand your next statement. The code for pre-5xxx isn't being tested or fixed in the mainline code... does the fact that some of it hasn't actually been removed or completely bitrotted yet somehow turn that into a "marketing trick" ?Test signature

You doesn't need wait for moderator account activation to post here (that was old test forum http://devgurus.amd.com/groups/steam-linux - it's already deleted).
