It would be hell of a Christmas present. Thanks Bridgman, Thanks, agd5f, Thanks to all at AMD, and Thanks to all other people for the awesome work.

Indeed. Sadly, the *buntus won't see r600/r700 OpenGL until NEXT APRIL when 10.04 comes out.

I'm liking Arch's rolling release model more and more!

EDIT: I called Ubuntu 10.04 "Karmic Koala". d'oh!

Okey so the following has been completely implemented (if the card has hardware support for this) across all ATI cards:
          DDX (X server modesetting)
          ShadowFB
          Old 2D acceleration (XAA)
          2D acceleration (EXA)
          Overlay Xv
          Textured Xv
          Dual-link DVI
          XRandR 1.2
          Suspend support
          Console restore

Thank you to everybody here who made that possible!

Now this is what worries me: why is there not going to be support for KMS on the HDRadeon4870?

Ha! Now this is some news that fits my taste! Yeah! Hopefully 2.6.32 won't take too long to emerge on my box. Thanks developers/AMD-ATI.

Did I miss something, Normaly Ubuntu releases new versions all 6 months, and that should be true for Karmic, too.

"با ناسا بت بدون فیلتر به راحتی و سریع وارد شوید. در این مقاله، ورود به ناسا بت بدون فیلتر با لینک جدید، دانلود اپلیکیشن ناسا بت بدون فیلتر شکن و چگونه بدون فیلتر وارد ناسا بت شویم؟ را بررسی می‌کنیم. همچنین، راه‌های دسترسی به سایت و بازی انفجار در ناسا بت بدون فیلتر را توضیح خواهیم داد."

So it should come on 29th of October.

about my last question, I asked because I see since a few weeks something that looks like the new drm code.

              black@saturn:~$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep r600
(II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/dri/r600_dri.so

              black@saturn:~$ glxinfo | grep Mesa
IRQ's not enabled, falling back to busy waits: 2 16
              no rrb
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R600 (RV740 94B3) 20090101 TCL
OpenGL version string: 1.4 Mesa 7.6-devel

I dont know whats missing to get this work but I think it?s not the dri version?

It?s not software-rendering anymore but the hardware 3d (glxgears) does not work yet at least here (hd4770).

I hope they fix it soon, but I think they will till karmic release.

Scaling of just about any mode works. Only tv-out on the pre-avivo chips (r1xx-r4xx) is limited to 800x600.

Better power management is next on our list once r6xx/r7xx 3D support stabilizes a bit more.
Awesome! Thanks for the quick response, not to mention all the work you and your colleagues have been getting done.

Why do you say this ? As far as I know the initial KMS code supports the HD4870 to the same extent as other 6xx/7xx chips.

Sounds like the 3D code is there but just needs some updates. The IRQ message is normal right now but the rrb message was fixed a few weeks ago IIRC.

                    X2?

Is there/will be in current drivers support of Crossfire?

There has been discussion about adding support for Crossfire-like operation to the open drivers but it's a large task and I don't expect it to happen in the near future. Crossfire is not something you can just enable in the hardware.
