Those profits didn't come from selling their consoles idiot. At least not directly.
Sony just released results of a blockbuster quarter for the PS5, now that supply has finally been boosted and they can start producing units at a reasonable clip.
Where's your sources? Ah, forget it.... you're a waste of time........friggin' trolls on here.... yet another one.
Microsoft was the only one reported of any decline - and hardly devastating...

You may want to stop name calling and return to actual arguments, including official statements from the companies.
Sony is known to sell consoles at a small loss for a short window after launch, but they recoup that loss already with the typical initial purchase (console, extra controller, game/PSN store credit/PSN subscription).
Ito would not be drawn on whether more than one launch title would need to be bought before the whole equation resulted in Sony making money, just that the company expected to turn a profit on an average user's initial purchase.
Some months after launch, Sony's console itself will become profitable. For PS4 this point was reached in May 2014, for PS5 Disc Edition this was August 2021 (no public statements available for the Digital Edition).
Microsoft on the other hand are on record saying that they never made a profit from console sales:During questioning related to the ongoing Epic versus Apple case, Microsoft VP of Xbox business development Lori Wright was asked whether Microsoft had ever made a profit on the sale of Xbox hardware at any point. Her answer was straightforward:
“If Microsoft sells consoles at a loss, why does it keep selling them?” lawyer asks. Because the business model is set up to deliver an “end to end consumer experience,” and they make money in the long run over sales/subscriptions.
“Has Microsoft ever earned a profit on the sale of an Xbox console?” lawyer asks. “No,” Wright says.
About the extent of the loss, Xbox boss Phil Spencer stated a while back that they sell both the Xbox Series X and the Series S at a loss of $100-200 per device:The company offers the $499 Xbox Series X and the less powerful $299 Xbox Series S. Microsoft subsidizes the cost to the tune of $100 to $200 per console
Nintendo are not generally known to sell consoles below cost, though they admit that they operated at a loss during the Wii U generation. They are probably closer to Sony than to Microsoft in this regard:So what about the elephant in the room? Iwata offered no immediate solution to the Wii U problem, but did rule out one thing – a price cut.
Astonishingly, he still argued that marketing could hold the key to saving Nintendo’s 250 machine, pledging that marketing efforts will be increased.
He also vowed to make better use of the console’s GamePad controller.
"Under the current situation where the company has to report an operating loss, simply executing a price reduction as a way to defuse the situation is not an option," he claimed.

Right. I should have ignored that guy long ago. These companies manufacture these consoles but claim/report 'no profit.' Sure. I believe it. They fudge the numbers for some reason. I guess they can claim losses so can implement layoffs whenever. Sure, they profit on subscriptions and gamers are stuck in the 'game system' they chose - so, with Microsoft/Sony or Nintendo.
Microsoft reported massive growth in Xbox revenue for the quarter, largely due to the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Microsoft's fiscal fourth quarter earnings report mostly contained good news for the Xbox department. While 2021's slow release calendar has created a
In its Monday earnings report, Microsoft revealed that hardware revenue from its gaming console Xbox increased by 13% in the third quarter of 2022. The corporation’s gaming vertical recorded a slight revenue growth to $3.61 billion thanks in part to PC Game Pass subscriptions.
If Microsoft or whomever wants to claim losses on hardware sales, whatever. As you mentioned, it's offset by the subscriptions and other profits/revenues they gained that relate to the hardware/consoles.

That being said, we're finally starting to see a turn to offering some consumer GPUs (Intel only, at this time) with DP-only/no-HDMI designs, which was previously only something we saw with Nvidia/AMD/Intel/Matrox workstation GPUs. Unfortunately, DP is now being dropped from many new-to-the-market monitors and previous designs have had the DP port replaced with an additional HDMI port, so it's becoming an issue to find a suitable/acceptable new or old monitor that works for those new cards with DP-only.
