    With the Mesa 24.1-devel Git code as of this morning, the Radeon RADV Vulkan driver is now exposing the VK_KHR_video_decode_av1 for Vulkan Video accelerated decoding of AV1 video content...

    • banned via CDD
    Windows:
    • NVIDIA has been corrupted by the 551 driver.
    • Intel was never implemented.
    • AMD performance poorly.
    Linux:
    • Embedded Linux has no hope of Vulkan.
    • Intel does not support 422/444/12bit.
    Chrome/Firefox:
    • Use platform specific APIs and has no plans to migrate to Vulkan.

    Only RADV and NVIDIA/Linux work properly. No other player supports Vulkan Video except mpv. Vulkan Video doesn't make sense for end users. It's practically dead.

      I only care about mpv on linux, and I'm team radeon, so we good!

          Android is just Google updating their specs for future Android versions, Windows and Linux need some work, and more software needs to adopt it. Honestly, there's a joke about Wayland HDR in there if you know where to look.

            Vulkan is a graphics API and the end user should care about Video Vulkan because the alternative is the cluserfuck of VAAPI, VDPAU, NVDEC, and WTFever Windows and macOS do.

                Video Vulkan should just present as both a VAAPI/libva driver and a vdpau driver as well. Then voila, will be more accessible

                    Gstreamer (1.24) also supports it, even though the implementation is not yet automatically used (unlike va-api/v4l2).
