Phoronix: Intel Issues New CPU Microcode Going Back To Gen8 For New, Undisclosed Security Updates

    ...undisclosed security updates.
    Isn't openness and transparency wonderful?

What new sidechannel attack does this quietly workaround, I wonder?

Benchmarks going currently on Alder Lake P and Raptor Lake S.... Depending on outcome, some Xeon CPUs and other systems ready for testing this weekend.

Releasing the patches some time before disclosing the vulnerability is standard practice at this point, to give people some time to upgrade. Honestly, I don't think it's such a bad idea any more.

Would you be able to test on something older? Whiskey Lake would be ideal.

Performance didn't seem affect here (8700k) but I didn't really do thorough benching.

Intel now saying (in the article update) it's not a security update, only other stuff but then not saying a word about what changed... lovely

Keeping tabs on opensource apps made me addicted to meaningful changelogs... theirs looks like Sony Playstation with their "fixes performance improvements" one-liner changelog on 99% of its updates
