ATI R600 Classic Mesa 7.9 Performance

Nor with any other ioquake3 game did we encounter any changes in performance between Mesa 7.8. At least with Mesa 7.9 we have the R600 classic driver handling Warsow quite well for those interested in this first-person shooter on R600/700 graphics hardware. For other games however, primarily those based upon the ioquake3 engine, we did not encounter any real differences. Though if you are using the Linux 2.6.36 kernel or newer that has the DRM to support tiling, which is also supported in the user-space side with Mesa 7.9, you may experience some performance changes. We will be running another set of tests with the very latest kernel DRM in another forthcoming article.
