Also, gotta love how they gave a million euros to GNOME instead of KDE, when KDE is literally founded in Germany, and needed the money way more since GNOME gets so much corporate development already.

Second, if the German government lacks funds, it is not because it "throws them away", as you say, but due to a ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court that upended the 2024 budget mere months before it was to be ratified and thus prompted the government to "plug the hole", so to speak, by cutting expenditure and especially investment. In fact, if anything, Germany invests too little into digital infrastructure.
Third, even if "no one" used this Rust rewrite of GNU coreutils, as you allege, an investment would make sense — precisely to change that fact and develop these tools into something that eventually sees widespread usage.

Any penny spent on FOSS is worth it. It supports the FOSS community.

German investments in public IT infrastructure are really really sad. It is so bad that I not only suspect incompetency but some corruption too. But mostly it has to do with our federal system.

Regarding KDE founding, if what you say is true, I completely agree. Germany licks the balls of the US for decades and it's disgusting.
Despite the fact I really dislike KDE, they should have got the money indeed rather than gnome :/
