I was searching for something like this a few months ago in order to contribute metadata in a project and I was surprised that nothing existed. The easiest solution was to copy the metadata from a similar project and do some changes. As a general note it would be nice if there were solutions to add information like project name and version directly from a cmake file during build time so that you don't have to change the appdata file almost never after initial creation.
