It looks quite interesting that they contribute to Glibc as all their phones use Android's Bionic libc, of course. Maybe they will now start to invest a little bit more into standard Linux after Google locked them out of Play Store & Co.?

If he had been serious about stopping Chinas bad practices he would have worked on getting TTIP done, which would have lowered Chinas international position and pushes them in complying for trade.
Instead he is doing his political/stock-market scam.

Isn't it obvious and amusing? Trumps pressure on Chinese companies forces them to make them independent from western hardware and software IP. As Linux cannot be controlled by any government, investing in Linux (and other parts of the open source software ecosystem) provides a financially sound route for Chinese companies to provide them with this independence in the software space (otherwise they would need to start from a blank sheet which would need alot of time and effort).

As a byproduct, the whole Linux community benefits from their advancements of the OSS stack, like this generic Glibc improvements. I hope that we will see similar investments in OSS from the European Processor Initiative to get rid of Microsoft in the public sector (which is a security liability by design due to being closed source).

The WINTEL monoculture seems to get some competition soon, from WINARM, Linux/ARM and Linux/x86.

Concerning TTIP, that would have helped to better integrate Western markets, sure. And I am a huge fan of it due to the trade benefits for both sides. But love Trump or hate his methods, he indirectly contributed to OSS nonetheless.

Bearing in mind that TPP and TTIP had some pretty nasty provisions in them. I forget which is which, but one had a provision to allow companies to sue nations in an international court if they added regulations which cut into profits and the other had a provision that made it illegal to reverse the privatization of a public service.

That sounds a lot like part of a long-term strategy toward sucking the sovereignty out of nations and vesting it in something less democratic.
