Then it's official, Microsoft Office has been ported to Linux. (The kernel, anyways)

From here, Microsoft could easily port to the rest of the world of linux distributions any time they please.

Maybe. From the reviews it sounds like it can't edit many documents and doesn't work on tablets, so even on Android it's crippled.

No it has been ported to Android using the Android Java APIs and this is not full MS office that is available on Windows.

This is pretty much what we should have expected. MS is worried about their Office market and about the mobile market, so the natural thing to do is put their most popular software on the most popular platform before people try the alternatives. The genius part is to make the experience so poor that people will be driven to run the MS Office software they already know on Windows Mobile instead. This leverages their Office monopoly to prevent competition while increasing market share in the mobile operating system area. It's your basic run-of-the-mill anti-trust behavior.

If they manage to get high enough mobile share, expect this Office port to get neglected and rot. For a previous example, look no further than "Internet Explorer on Mac, circa the death of Netscape Navigator".

Probably this is what was rumored as Full MS Office for the Linux desktop not long ago.

Who needs it, we have better office suites.

This is just the dying screams of a coelacanth that was unable to adapt to the new world. Goodbye MS, welcome open source software.

I'm pretty sure Office Web Apps have more features than this. They're also free. So there's no point in porting this crippled suite to desktop Linux.

I was concerned for a moment, that they might have actually beaten libreoffice to Android. Turns out that this is not the case.

All this actually is, is a wrapper for some web crap. Nothing actually that runs on Android, and TOTALLY dependent on their crap network services.
