The sad thing is that they made app analysis harder because the root cas are now encapsulated in a play services module and mitm certs are even harder to mark as trusted.

not true at all, the format is "open", its completely about backwards compatibility with non hdr devices. the format itself is pretty simple all things considered https://developer.android.com/guide/...r-image-format
