Gallium Nine is most likely faster in CPU bound scenarios, that's the way eON works (basic idea: one extra thread for on-the-fly conversation), everybody should get it (especially AMD fans). I don't think this will change soon - maybe with Vulkan optimized games in the future but not with new eON ports.

Certainly I use the Nvidia binary driver for my GTX 650 Ti. And I don't need to boot Windows for Linux games. It does not matter for me what you think about binary drivers, most Kanotix gamers use binary ones if possible. I only remember some fglrx profiles after release (and override options to try features disabled first because of driver bugs) but let me know which ones got much faster for OSS drivers.

Performance can be better (maybe improve in future updates) however is playable (especially saint row the third)
System Specs Used in Tests
Nvidia Drivers 364.15 (run package)
Xubuntu 16.04 64Bit - Kernel 4.4.0-18 generic (ubuntu mainline) - P-State: Performance
CPU: INTEL Pentium G3258 (Haswell 22nm) 4.1Ghz + Artic Cooling Alpine 11 Plus
MEMORY: 8GB DDR3 1333 (2x4) Patriot value (dual channel: 21.3 gb/s)
GPU: Zotac Nvidia Geforce GT630 (GK208 28nm: 384 Shaders / 8 ROPS) Zone Edition Passive Cooling 2GB DDR3 1800Mhz 64Bit (14.4Gb/s)
MAINBOARD: MSI H81M E33
Saint Row The Third
In this tests game remains stable
However recording at 48fps needs around 17 a 20% of cpu on practical terms this represent 8 and 10 fps performance loss in my machine depending game
For this reason test 2 and 3 are recording at 30fps without forget is some situations (Heavy Explosions, Heavy particle situations) fps drop around 30fps
And on test 3 game runs without problem with large combat in test (on wine game remains around 15 min of playing and gpu go to 0% and freeze)
Saint Row 2
However in middle of this thanks to deep silver / volition for this games

For rendering tests GK208 is enough (even for Vulkan) but is really fun to play games in a 800x600 window?
Seeking my actual vcard:
My Geforce GT 630 Rev 2 (GK208) have this
28nm manufacturing process / 384 shaders / 8 rops / 16 tmus / 25w of power draw
Maybe this year change vcard if appears in technical specs something like this:
16 / 14 nm manufacturing process (28nm is the past now) / 512 shaders maxwell performance level minimum / 16 rops / 32 tmus / maximum 30w of power draw
Thinking about support vulkan but if want gpu for vulkan purpouse maybe choose something more powerfull
At least respect fun, i playing at 800x600 on window or maximum 800x600 fullscreen* in lastest 20 years still fun, in my case have more priority monitor
*Normally on desktop dont use more than 1024x768 in desktop resolution (when have xp use max 800x600 in desktop, CRT 15 inches in this time), only use more if no option
Personally i dont like LCD/LED monitors (horrible input lag) for this reasons still using CRT monitor and have other CRTs if is needed
Maybe can change monitor when appears normal monitors with universal input lag solution (one monitor for some brand and other for another brand is very annoying)
As said in Lord of the Rings "One to rule them all"
