FWIW, I'm not an OpenGL expert either, never wrote anything more complicated than a simple demo that never was published anywhere. I just worked on mesa a bit. So maybe I wasn't completely right somewhere in the posts above, tried to oversimplify it for a non-dev readers. But I believe I'm mostly right anyway, unless anyone can prove the opposite.
