      WOOT, Unity for Linux

I will be the first to port my game to Linux if unity was able to compile for it.

These things are not equal to the investment made by individuals. People are paying for the product. And not for the prizes. 3 million pay for these gifts and funds these guys. This is being used as a justification to steal the investment (the game).

          Lapis:
I hope you've put a bunch of money into this: Liberated Pixel Cup, because it looks like exactly what you want:

          About the Liberated Pixel Cup

Liberated Pixel Cup is a two-part competition: make a bunch of awesome free culture licensed artwork, and then program a bunch of free software games that use it.

Liberated Pixel Cup brings together some powerful allies: Creative Commons, Mozilla, OpenGameArt, the Free Software Foundation, and you.

          The artwork

Phase one of the competition is to build a set of artwork that's dual licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0 and GPLv3 and stylistically consistent. To that end, we're currently working on a style guide which incorporates these components.
You'll probably be happier following news from: Free Gamer: Free, open source game and development news

            This is ridiculous.

It's like going into a grocery store, seeing a sign that says bananas cost $1, buying those bananas for a dollar, and then sitting outside protesting the fact that all you got was a banana when really you should be entitled to the tree that banana came from and the part of the farm it's on and the fact that all you got was a banana is socialism somehow and whaaaaaaaa....

Listen up, they told you EXACTLY what you were buying. You either agreed it was worth it and gave them your money. Or you disagreed and thought it wasn't worth it, and didn't give them your money. Either way, you have NOTHING to complain about.

              Wrong.

My example you pay for a full banana, but only gets the right to use the banana. You can not eat bananas the way you want and still have to return the part that you did not eat.

People are paying the salary of the developers. This is not working for free.

              Thanks dashcloud for the links.

But in my opinion it is necessary to do business differently. For example, developers create a game with a non-free license . After this , they make a proposal in the kickstarter to launch a game entirely on open source. Even if the proposal is somewhat more expensive. Developers can also earn money after releasing proprietary versions of the game using the open source copyright. GPL/MPL/LGPL allows the owner of the copyright to release proprietary versions of the game.

If that's the case, then the analogy is walking into the grocery store, seeing a sign that says that looking at the bananas cost $1 but you can't do anything else, you going to the register and paying the $1, and then protesting that you can't do anything else.

That's just as stupid. Don't pay the dollar if you don't want to. But whatever you do, don't pay for what is explicitly told and then protest later.

It's like the guys that go into restaurants, eat their entire meal, and then afterwards complain about how bad it was and they should get it for free. If it's that bad, you shouldn't eat it.

This argument is going nowhere. I see all your well thought out arguments met with a brick wall.

One of the myths that game devs used to love throwing around about NOT making games for Linux, alongside the valid reasons, is that "Linux users just want everything for free". I don't think it's true, and generally just a matter of their culture misunderstanding our culture, but reading lapis' comments, I can understand how they can get that impression of us.

They can do this ,but this not means they are correct or logical. People pay a cost for a full banana, but the store sells crippled bananas.

This is not a good investment and a correct and logical thing.

Do not be rude. I'm trying to use logic to explain my ideas.

Never talked about anything for free. I say that if you pay wages and product development, then why the product can not be yours?

Nobody prevents this type of business, but it is not logical.
