Phoronix: Alternative Games Is All About Linux Gaming

Yesterday we talked about Frozenbyte wanting Linux gamers to help test their Linux game port of Trine. We also mentioned that Frozenbyte's Trine 2 would likely be coming to Linux and that this work for Frozenbyte was being done by Alternative Games, a company we never heard of. We have now received an email from Tapio Honkonen, the CEO of this company that's said to be all about Linux gaming...

Again, stop moaning about Ryan. Skimming through his Twitter just now, it looks like he got married in September. I certainly know how much time that can take up. Congratulations to him.

Didn't they get the memo? PC gaming is dying. Even Windows gaming is shrinking every year. Blizzard is the last big developer who focuses of PCs as primary platform. All the other game releases were degraded to mere Xbox ports years ago.
Of all game sales, the PC shrunk to 10%. Linux gaming is %1 of those 10%.

Concentrating on Linux games is a wasted effort.

PC Retail sales shrunk, over all PC gaming revenue has been growing steadily over the last 5 years thanks to delivery systems like steam.

It says a lot about Phoronix' publicity to get a reply from the CEO this quick.

Not really PC gaming is shrinking but won't die. Linux is just another platform so if people use it, making games for it is not a bad idea.

When You think about it... Don't You think that the consoles are getting more "PC'ish"? Comparing PS2 and PS3, the latter has many capabilities one would expect from a PC, not only gaming...

PC gaming might be shrinking, but it will ALWAYS be the platform for hardcore gamers. What other platform can you run 24 monitors together at 1080p each, and have it playable? Don't underestimate the massive amounts of money that PC gamers spend on their rigs. PC games lay console games to waste graphically.

BTW, what platform does new technologies always hit first? Think tesselation, think raytracing (still waiting,) think multiple monitors, and think 3D
