  • Native Vulkan Game List

I'm a very long time reader/lurker of Phoronix. Been a Linux desktop user for about 20 years, but only just got back into gaming recently. I thought you all might find this list of native Vulkan games interesting: https://www.vulkan.org/made-with-vulkan

I'm not entirely sure how complete this list is, but one of the things I found interesting is how many games on the list Stadia and its partners helped bring in. Aside: one of the reasons I got back into gaming was because Stadia made it so easy and portable for me to play.

As a long time Linux user and previous Linux gamer, it’s interesting to note that some of the Stadia Vulkan games have Linux desktop ports as well, but it’s far from all of them. Some of these have other Linux solutions – previous OpenGL Linux ports or near flawless WINE performance. But, I certainly wouldn’t mind these developers double dipping and releasing their Vulkan ports on Linux, too. Stadia is just a stripped down Linux-64 environment after all with some platform APIs that should be pretty easy to remove/replace.

I'd love for developers to think of various Linux endpoints collectively when deciding to bring a game natively to Linux + Vulkan. We are probably 2% collectively... instead of 1% on Linux Steam/GOG etc. and 1% on Stadia for example.

I wrote some analysis of this at a Stadia centric website I work with - https://stadiadosage.com/stadia-driver-of-vulkan/
