Does it support encryption by default yet? I think some Google engineer was saying more than a year ago that he would add it to ext4 and then F2FS.

As of Linux kernel 4.5, there is parameter to allow F2FS encryption in stock kernel config. I swear I've seen it while grinding through 4.5 build options in menuconfig. Whether it activated or not or whether your kernel is recent enough is up for you or your kernel supplier. I'm also not really sure what you consider "default" for kernel configuration. I doubt it going to be defconfig and distros may have their own idea on how they configure their kernels and what is "default".

I don't think F2FS is supported by Fedora/CentOS/RHEL, nor is it in the plans to be, which really is a shame.

I take it you mean as a root FS. Debian's installer doesn't offer it as an option either (at least in Jessie) but it's easy enough to fudge it afterwards. I have successfully done this.

Not if you want to exchange data with Windows or OS X or BD players or TVs or ...

aosp actually has f2fs-tools maintained by google. or something like that.

No, there were some Motorola devices that used it.

As long as you transfer files between Linux systems only. That's its limit.
