I have fond memories of playing with all of these and doing performance and size comparison tests back in the day.

Ah yes, me too. I eventually settled on flac because those somewhat tiny improvements weren't worth the complications. Flac just works everywhere and for space constrained scenarios I'm fine with opus @128.
