Ubuntu 18.04 is using Linux 4.15.

For other April releases very tight fit getting in 4.16.... except for rolling-release distros. Fedora 28 in May should hopefully ship with it on day one.

you can always download for ubuntu or ubuntu flavors http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ or some canonical kernel team ppa, normaly they put there their testing kernels for the next distro. This is not a time for ubuntu 18.04 default realease.

This kernel 4.16 brokes nvidia again, the driver not loads

All 4.15 kernels with amdgpu.dc=1 are unusable to me, got terrible performance. Now I'm getting better performance than I did with 4.14, or 4.15 with amdgpu.dc=0

Finally, HDMI audio, and even better performance.
Speaking about the amdgpu.dc=1 boot parameter. Any idea if it will come to GCN 1.0 some day?

What's the difference between the branches "drm-next-4.17-wip" and "amd-staging-drm-next"?

Both have equally recent commits, but some of the latest commits differ...

-wip rebases on drm-next more frequently.

For Fedora users, 4.16-rc1 is available in the RawhideKernelNodebug Repo: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/RawhideKernelNodebug

Using it on my Acer Predator Helios 300 laptop with XFS boot and root; no problems at all
