Phoronix: VirtualBox Guest Drivers Still Working Their Way To The Mainline Linux Kernel

While the VirtualBox DRM/KMS driver was merged for Linux 4.13 as one step towards improving the out-of-the-box support for Linux guests on Oracle VM VirtualBox, other drivers remain out-of-tree still, but that is slowly changing...

Interesting ... why are RedHat doing this work for Oracle?

This question is redundant when Oracle is involved.

Oracle puts minimal effort into development.
If they do any, it will surely be proprietary, with it's license protected by another proprietary license licensed under the first proprietary license.
I hope you get the idea.

Besides... VirtualBox might make more money for RH than Oracle... as a feature for RHEL.

Should the drivers really need to be VM-specific?
Shouldn't the there be like a single API for virtual machines that can be used by VirtualBox, KVM, QEMU, Hyper-V, etc?

Hmm, may I ask why copy-and-paste needs to be in the kernel? Seems like a userspace thing to me.
