Martin Gr??lin made "a dream come true" today with killing the KScreensaver support in the KDE Plasma Workspaces in a commit entitled "Die kscreensaver, die!" He also proceeded to remove the KDE Screensaver KCM control module and drop other code too, including KRandR...

It really took thousands of lines to implement kscreensaver? But oh well - nobody needs screensavers these days anyway, and shrinking KDE Workspaces is always welcome. Even CRT monitors made within the last 15 years don't depend on screensavers.

No.. a Screensaver itself doesnt protect anything. Because anyone can just come by and shake the mouse. What -protects- you is a lock screen.

in the current planning of Plasma2 there is still place for flying penguins when the screen is locked. Thanks to QtQuick2. Just X Screen Savers don't have a place any more - the reason should be obvious ;-)

And the sad part is that we live in an age where classical music rises and falls due to marketing gimmicks.

But then, if "Also sprach Zarathustra" is only known as "2001 music" and "Ride of the Valkyries" is "Apocalypse Now" music, then poor old T?rrega has to live with being Nokia's cash cow.
