    Vulkan and metal are pretty simple. Vulkan was built ontop of technologies from mantle. Metal was developed by ex mantle developers iirc. Both could be considered the successor to mantle equally IMO.

      Absolutely, but what I think people were missing back then was that if the toolkit developers embraced it, then the people writing regular programs wouldn't ever need to get that deep into it; they're drawing user interfaces in Qt and GTK+, not setting up raw Vulkan output or whatever.
