Wagner's TechTalk has a 24-minute video up on installing ReactOS 0.4.9 nightly build directly on an older Dell D630 laptop: https://www.reactos.org/forum/viewto...p?f=22&t=17021

The Dell D630 is a 2007-era laptop, with an Intel Core 2 Duo. The video shows installing with 2010-era x86 drivers from driverpacks.net.

The video appears to have the approval of the ReactOS community: https://www.reactos.org/forum/viewto...p?f=22&t=17021

"In this video, not only do we install ReactOS on REAL HARDWARE, but we also provide you tips on how you can do the same."

I wish them best of luck... still seems like an awful lot more to accomplish before there is much useful here.

Seems like a good hobby project for someone who's interested in that technology. As a full-time endeavor, it doesn't look like a great career move.

One interesting point I wasn't aware of is that the ReactOS devs are using some of the Wine DLL's to push things forward. Kind of an interesting hybrid in that sense.

A great many Wine DLL's are just stubs that translate Linux syscalls to Windows ones, which is part of the reason why ReactOS is so small(even though it is feature-equivalent to Windows 2000/XP, which are much larger), also part of the reason that lot's of programs don't work on ReactOS as well as they do on Wine...
