    Kicking off an exciting Supercomputing SC23 week, The Linux Foundation announced this morning that they are forming the High Performance Software Foundation (HPSF) to help advance an open-source core software stack for high performance computing (HPC). Already a number of national labs, Intel, NVIDIA, and other stakeholders are involved...

    Notably absent from this list that includes Intel and NVIDIA is... AMD. Quite surprising to see AMD not involved in the High Performance Software Foundation but will be interesting to see if they join later if they hadn't been invited onboard as a founding members.

    Ngreedia's and intel money exchanged hands, results achieved.

      What is AMD thinking??? They really are missing the HPC boat. Yes they have the epic EPYC CPU... but lets be honest in HPC the CPU is just used to move data to the GPU and AMD has totally imploded on the GPU compute front.

      Now that NVidia is producing their own CPUs for HPC, AMD should be seeing threats on every side. Intel is at least trying to engage with the HPC market!

            Quite opposite. AMD at least has been trying to engage with GPGPU HPC with Instinct family of products. Intel has virtually nothing there yet actual market wise aside some recent marketing attempts.

              The HPC crowd (the "official" ACM/Supercomputing one, not people doing high performance computing) is a specific community; in particular, they generally loathe free software and open solutions. AMD with their peasant CUDA vs. Nvidia, now owning their ever-loved Infiniband -- easy pick. On a CPU side AMD is clearly an abomination: making a 128 core CPU is a wasted chance to connect 4 32 core CPUs with some sexy network fabric. (;

                Not just AMD, where are IBM, ARM (or Qualcomm), Fujitsu, Atos, Lenovo, Dell, Microsoft (Azure) and Google (GCP)?

                  high performance computing with hackable registers and branch prediction so my password in the "cloud" can be hacked. no thanks. we need security first. computers are plenty fast for me already.

                    Di you know what does HPC mean?
                    It's not for individuals like you, those HPC applications run on clusters that contain hundreds of CPUs and GPUs.
