The kernel is lots of code, the mailing list and their use of it as both a communication tool and as a patch submission tool are two entirely different things.

After 25+ years of using Linux, that is.
Thanks LKML, toxic Linux kernel atmosphere is making me get heavily disgusted and disappointed of Linux.
Anyway, I think Kent should get heavy support and advocacy on LKML. Despite his failures, he doesn't deserve this level of backslash. I'm nobody, but kernel developers can be heard.

Bad response really. It's not boding well for upstreaming at all, unless this thinking will result in actually following suggested guidelines for upstreaming without any bickering. Time to put ego aside and just do stuff.
And I have nothing against upstreaming it, I've been waiting for a while for it. But if there are rules - not following them is not going to help it.

Also, other involved members acted even worse than him.
I agree he should have behaved differently, but the other involved parties did a very extreme witch hunt.

It would be very annoying if this upstreaming fails not becasue of some technical issues, but becasue developers couldn't resolve how to work together.Last edited by shmerl; 08 September 2023, 06:48 PM.

I think the troubling thing about Bcachefs is that there still doesn't appear to be any big money behind it, and it's largely a one-man show. Obviously that makes a difference in the speed of it getting accepted into the kernel. And if the filesystem is to be successful, that can't continue to be the situation going forward.

But it's insane and injust those morons doesn't get properly punished.
LKML is getting extremely toxic!

The few really good developers aren't only very skilled technically, but also socially. Those become senior project managers of very big teams.
The majority behave like kindergartens, even the most skilled ones.Last edited by timofonic; 08 September 2023, 07:03 PM.
