So now we have the risk of friction in the Kernel Team we avoided, BUT it looks to me that at least in Kernel 6.7 there will also not be a bcachefs UNLESS they try to help him instead of only saying you should do X Y Z and beg some people that gave no reason for their rejection that they finally give a real statement or something.
The only thing that from my intuition could motivate Kent would be that there are some bakers give him money to accept the unnecessary kafkaesce situation and pain.
But to burn out such a young great developer to force him to go through a kafkaesk which you could also just call abusive humiliating process where he has to show basically that this old folks are somehow superior to him even they maybe never done such great big project at least some of them, is never good even if he does it.
Not only does it delay the delivery of the better product, but also steels developer time and increases stress on him so the product will be worse than it could be without that interference.
Even having 3-x attempts to merge it instead of 1 binds lot's of developer time even without burnout and slow email communication and waiting times.
So I nearly hope now that Kent states that he will not try to integrate it in 6.7 than only that would maybe make the kernel devs to question their attitudes and rules.
(and sorry I am to lazy to google the pronunciation of Kafka-esk)
About the mailing list, there might be disadvantage and yes some folks that want not have any learning courve would see it as disadvantage that you have no or bad browser access to it. But on the other side of the coin you have in my example Emacs but surely other NNTP tools that are directly integrated in your IDE and stuff now maybe there is some sort of integration that don't involve the slow and very limited configurable (shortcuts) browser for Visual Studio or so, but if we talk for the best IDE Emacs, as example and surely VIM and others to my knowledge there exist no non-browser based interface, so yes NNTP / Mailinglists might have some disadvantages but the Web based newer Systems should address the horrible shortcomings of there systems have nntp Access or something similar otherwise it will always be like playing chess over mail, browsers are unacceptable UIs, you don't want to render something and have to dictate by the developers how it looks and all the shortcuts are...
