Your doing nothing of the sort. Your just spreading bile with no actual fact. You claim that nvidia doesn't give a shit about the regular user and your wrong. If they had not they would not have put the effort in many of their features.

No, not regular users. I am claiming they don't care much about _linux_desktop_ users. That is Far Far Far from regular users.

Say Linux desktop has about 1% market penetration. How many of those doe you think that care about gaming and home theater?

50%? 40%? We are talking about fractions of fractions.

What possible reason does Nvidia give a shit about that? What major OEMs support Linux with Nvidia consumer hardware?

Nvidia cares because it's cheaper to use Linux gamers to debug and Q/A their drivers then it is to pay employees to do it.

STR is a common acronym for Suspend to Ram. Surprising with your embedded experience that you completely missed that.
Whatever dude. If you used the term "S3" I would known exactly what your talking about and, hell, you would of even saved yourself a keypress.

    Compare and contrast:

That is exactly the case. That old Geforce 2 works fine with STR and also even supports xserver 1.9.
Thats a hell of a lot better then any Geforce 2 running system that I've ran across. Not that I don't believe you or anything.

See this is the perfect example of not knowing what you are talking about. Items like twinview are easily loaded off the .nvidia-settings-rc in your home directory which is created from the nvidia control panel
I was _asking_ a question. Did you not think I was not looking for a answer?

So because a feature is found later in Quadro products you assume it was all done for them? SLi was derived from their 3dfx acquirement and was on consumer boards years before quadros became capable. In fact most Quadro software official certified drivers do not give any benefit to the apps that the drivers are optimized for.

No you have it backwards. Sorta.

I'll paraphrase (and make myself look really smart, too):

ME> Nvidia cares about Linux support because of high-end customers that refuse to use Windows, but are willing to drop huge amounts of cash on their hardware. VDPAU and things like that exist for consumer electronics since Linux is amazingly popular in that market, too.

YOU> No your wrong. Nvidia loves us and Linux desktop users generate lots of money for them and is a huge market.

<bunch of silly words and everybody being stupid>

YOU> SLI is not even originally used on high-end hardware. Hell, It took so long for professional cards that it was not until shortly after Linux had SLI support that Quadro cards gained SLI support.

      ME> LOL.

And as I said before features such as vdpau and SLi prove that your wrong. Those are completely "desktop" features.

Whatever dude. If you used the term "S3" I would known exactly what your talking about and, hell, you would of even saved yourself a keypress.

The reason I didn't say S3 is for the same reason why it pulls up the first results in your search. When talking S3 it is easily confused with S3 graphics when talking about video.

Thats a hell of a lot better then any Geforce 2 running system that I've ran across. Not that I don't believe you or anything.
Well my extensive experience with nvidia cards in linux shows otherwise. Just because your having bad luck does not mean that it effects everyone. Having setup computer labs in the past with cards starting from Geforce 2+ str has never been a big concern unlike items like PulseAudio that cause issues with str.

          Shortly? Try years after.

BTW, Google "S3 (STR)" (with quotes)

While being a supporter of Wayland and the first to cover this display server project two years ago when it was just in its infancy, this even caught me by surprise and a bit of a shock that Ubuntu, the leading desktop Linux distribution, planned to begin shipping support for it so soon...

Perfect. Makes my buying choice a lot easier - AMD/ATI all the way!

See now you have me confused.

                Did you just say:
In fact it wasn't until much after SLi was introduced to linux that they finally started making Quadro SLi capable.
                ?

                Seems to me:

Now that the 1.0-8XXX drivers are due out for an official public launch shortly, and the 1.0-8168 BETA drivers have been leaked by ASUS, GNU/Linux users can finally begin to experience the benefits of Scalable Link Interface (SLI) Technology in addition to many other improvements that Microsoft Windows ForceWare users have been able to utilize in their high-end systems for quite some time.
                Published November 2005

                and then:
When 3D graphics specialist Nvidia announced Quadro SLI last year it promised ‘never-before-seen performance’. Twelve months down the line the majority of CAD users are still waiting says Greg Corke.

Indeed HP, Nvidia’s official launch partner for Quadro SLI, has only just started shipping SLI in its Opteron-based xw9300 workstation. So, why has there been such a long delay with the technology, when GeForce SLI has been enthralling high-end gamers for over six months?
                Published 24 August 2005

So you were more right the first time.

Your right I forgot about the OEM Quadro's. It wasn't until the Quadro 4800 that it was available outside of OEM.
