So I guess Microsoft thinks they can just implement everything that's great about Linux and we'll all just jump ship back to Windows? Yeah...doesn't work that way, sorry.

That's hardly their intent.
It's most likely for cloud game streaming and/or Linux on Azure Virtual Desktop.
